four-day basic course

Since we only accept up to 10 Students per class, you will be given almost individual attention. At our class you will find 10 complete workstations each containing a late model mat cutter, and all the supplies needed to complete your training. You will share a V-Nail joining machine, glass cutters, oval and circle mat cutter, plus a thumbnail plastic wedge joining machine.

Techniques you will learn:
Day 1
  • Basic tools and equipment
  • Types of mats (regular and conservation)
  • Mat cutting projects - single, double, triple mats
  • Types of art work
  • Glass cutting and types of glazing

  • Day 2
  • Color coordination projects
  • Mat cutting projects
  • Mat design projects - multiple window openings
  • Use of templates
  • Cutting a fillet and installation

  • Day 3
  • Mat cutting oval and circles
  • Framing materials, different kinds of tape
  • Non-conservation mounting projects
  • Conservation mounting
  • Cutting Frames
  • Joining frames - Using an underpinner and thumbnail machine

  • Day 4
  • Fitting
  • Wood and metal moulding
  • Length, chop, and join
  • Use of templates
  • The business end of framing

    The class times for the four-day course are:
    Monday through Wednesday: 9:00am - 5:00pm and Thursday: 8:30am - 4:30pm.
